Artist in Residency

In July of 2021, I was an artist in residency in Vallauris, France. There, I worked on experimenting with a combination of static art and dynamic art. This is the collection of projects I worked on during my month long stay.

La Promenade Á La Mer

From a young age, I travelled with my family to the South of France. So my first film is an homage to my late father and his love for Provence, Charles Tenet’s La Mer, and painting. This is my first experimentation with animating my paintings and incorporating it into my films. After watching the video, please feel free to view the interactive gallery with the link below.

Deux

In my second film, I reflect inward on the anxiety I’ve been experiencing for most of my adult life. I use self portraits, poetry, and video to articulate it. Through these more abstract-styled paintings, I convey the duality of lightness and darkness, thus the name Deux. This is what anxiety feels like to me. Anxiety is like a room mate in my head who from time to time haunts me.

Aldrich the Toad

My final piece is a collaboration with the other artists in residency to create a story behind Nastia Calaca’s beautifully sculpted toad, fitted with a sun hat and swimsuit. Who is Aldrich? Where did he come from? What does he love? Find out in this character study, narrated by Tara Turnbull.
